The 30th Beijing International Book Fair begins on Wednesday, with a varied array of exhibitors from 71 nations and regions showcasing over 220,000 titles.

Compared to the previous year, 15 new countries will attend the exhibition, including Bangladesh, the Philippines, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, New Zealand, and Nigeria. Furthermore, countries such as Japan, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and Italy will dramatically increase their booth areas.

With 1,050 abroad exhibitors, up 150 from last year, multinational heavyweights such as Elsevier, Pearson, Wiley, Springer Nature, and Penguin Random House are among the renowned names expected to join the expo, which runs until June 23.

38 new businesses will join the 550 domestic participants, which include representatives from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. These include the Shanghai Data Exchange, game firm miHoYo, children's product developers, newspapers and magazines.

In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the BIBF will hold an exhibition highlighting key publishing achievements, notably in the new period after the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in October 2022. The exhibits will span a variety of disciplines, including social sciences, science and technology, arts and culture, children's literature, and ancient manuscripts.

Saudi Arabia, this year's Guest of Honor, will showcase roughly 120 titles in Arabic and English, with a concentration on literature, fairy tales, and instructional materials. The country will also hold academic forums and a conference to encourage copyright trade.

Saudi Arabia's deputy ambassador to China, Ali Alothman, emphasized the importance of displaying Saudi Arabia's rich historical history and diversified culture via various media at the expo to foster cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the two countries.

Lei Jianhua, assistant general manager of China National Publications Import and Export (Group) Co, a co-organizer of the event, stated that the Beijing International Publishing Forum, which is scheduled for June 21, will look into the potential innovations that new quality productive forces can bring to the publishing industry. Furthermore, high-level forums, such as the PubTech Conference on Wednesday, will explore the integration of artificial intelligence in the publishing industry.

The BIBF will continue to highlight picture books, art books in several languages, illustrations, and culinary literature, cementing its position as the world's second-largest book fair of its type.
