Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) served as the chief guest at the launch of the book ‘Swallowing The Sun‘ authored by Lakshmi Murdheshwar Puri. The launch event was held at a local hotel on Thursday. During his address, the Governor commended the book, noting that it is a tribute to mothers and delves into the enhancement of one’s thoughts and perspectives while honoring India’s invaluable cultural heritage.

He referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal, “One tree in the name of the mother,” encouraging the public to take special actions in honor of their mothers. The Governor remarked that the book not only honors the author's lineage but also enhances global comprehension of India’s struggle for independence. He admired the author’s talent for weaving creative storytelling with historical authenticity and expressed optimism that ‘Swallowing The Sun’ would be cherished by readers everywhere.

Lt Gen Singh characterized the book as far more than a mere novel, pointing out that it pays homage to the common individuals whose remarkable bravery contributed to India’s freedom narrative. The primary focus of the book centers around two sisters, accentuating their individual challenges and the collective aspiration of the nation to liberate itself from colonial rule. He also highlighted the necessity of safeguarding our heritage and educating the youth regarding our history, with particular emphasis on the role of women in the freedom movement. He indicated that the narrative transports readers to the lively streets of rural Maharashtra and Bombay during the fight for independence.

Additionally, the Governor mentioned that the book emphasizes the values of bravery, unity, and selflessness that characterized the freedom struggle. He urged young readers to understand the sacrifices made for India’s independence and recognize the responsibilities that come with it. He also pointed out that through its strong female leads, the book delivers an empowering message to young women, encouraging them to pursue their dreams boldly and take decisive actions.

This event was also attended by Lakshmi Murdheshwar Puri, Ambassador Kamlesh Sharma, Dr. Sanjeev Chopra (Retd IAS), Anandita Chatterjee from the Prabha Khaitan Foundation, and Anuradha Pundeer Malla, among others.
