Pentagon Press and Southern Command successfully hosted the "Kalam & Kavach" Defence Literature Festival at the RSAMI Institute on February 3, 2024. The event was opened by esteemed Chief Guest Gen Anil Chauhan, the CDS, and marked a key milestone in the integration of India's rich cultural history with contemporary national security strategies.
As India navigates the changing terrain of national security, it finds inspiration in its ancient scriptures.

The programme demonstrated how ancient knowledge from literature such as the Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita is applicable to today's strategic concerns. Gen Anil Chauhan highlighted the ageless significance of Dharma from Indian scriptures, emphasising its ideals of responsibility, righteousness, and moral balance.

Lt Gen AK Singh, Commander of the Army's Southern Command, emphasised the importance of adapting historical techniques to current threats and problems.

The festival also recognised the publication of four key books on topics ranging from global geopolitics to the role of Al in national security. These included "Russia, Gaza, Taiwan... A World at War" by Ajay Singh, as well as "A I and National Security" by Col Amit Sinha and Vijay Khare.

Mr Rajan Arya, CEO of Pentagon Press, reflected on the 25th anniversary of the Kargil War and emphasised the company's dedication to creating awareness about national security issues.
A important session titled 'Atmanirbhar Bharat - Powering India's Defence Sector' featured prominent industry experts such as Shri Baba Kalyani, emphasising the collaborative effort required to achieve full self-reliance in defence.

The event, a pioneer in Pune, brought together specialists to address a wide range of themes, from global conflicts to the importance of heritage in security. It serves as a light for future events attempting to combine history, culture, defence, and security into a coherent narrative.
