Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais on Monday stressed the incorporation of popular saints' literary works in school instruction to cultivate a generation of character-rich persons.

Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais highlighted on Monday the importance of using prominent saints' literary works in school instruction in order to raise a generation of character-rich persons.

Presiding over the 14th annual convocation of the Jain Vishwa Bharti Deemed University at the CIDCO Convention Centre in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, he emphasised the importance of inner peace, national harmony, and environmental consciousness for global peace.

"The education system is evolving with the new (National) Education Policy (unveiled in 2020) providing youths with opportunities for innovation and leveraging their strengths effectively," Bais told the media.

He envisioned India's global leadership through the comprehensive development of its graduates.

The Governor emphasised the importance of adding saint literature into the school curriculum to raise a generation of character-rich people.

He argued that Jainism's principles on peace, nonviolence, and compassion are especially pertinent in today's world.

Addressing the audience, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal emphasised the importance of value education and urged graduates to prioritise national interests.
Meghwal encouraged the Jain Vishwa Bharti varsity to help the National Manuscript Mission achieve achievement.

The Union Ministry of Tourism and Culture established the mission in February 2003 with the goal of unearthing and preserving India's extensive manuscript riches.

Speaking during the event, Acharya Mahashraman, the esteemed leader of the Jain Terapanth Sampradaya, emphasised the value of education in human existence and encouraged graduates to devote themselves to the pursuit of knowledge while fostering virtues such as honesty, nonviolence, and patience.

On the occasion, the Governor awarded Honorary DLitt (Honoris Causa) degrees on well-known banker K V Kamath and renowned Sanskrit and Jain scholar Prof Dayanand Bhargava respectively.

Gold medals were awarded to PhD graduates from several faculties.
