Sujata Parashar
Sujata Parashar is an award - winning Indian novelist, poet, short - story writer and a psychosocial trainer. She’s also the founder of a talk–therapy based platform with focus on enhancing emotional wellbeing, the Talk – it – Out Express (TiOE). Ms. Parashar has written nine books so far. Her debut novel, In Pursuit of Infidelity (2009) was a bestseller. The second in the series, In Pursuit of Ecstasy (2011) was long listed for the Economist Crossword Book Award 2012. Her third book in the ‘pursuit’ series, In Pursuit of a Lesser Offence (2014) dealt with the subject of changing face of marriage and relationships and was endorsed and recommended to readers by Shaadi.com – World’s no.1 matchmaking site.
She also has three poetry books to her credit under the Poetry Out and Loud series and a collection of short - stories, titled, That Woman You See (2015). Her latest fiction is a socio – political thriller called, The Temple Bar Woman (2018). It’s a story of a bold sexual assault survivor who refuses to give up despite all odds stacked against her. She’s also co – written a non - fiction on FMCG major Dabur India’s CSR initiative titled, The Sundesh Story (2019). Her tenth book, a fiction is under publication and will be released early next year. She’s currently working on a book on parenting for single parents. Apart from writing books, Sujata has been actively contributing to the cause of literature and poetry as a planning board member of a couple of prestigious literary festivals of the country. The author had also co – created and led a nature - writing initiative under Kumaon Lit Fest called Fellows of Nature (FON) to promote awareness about Nature. As a social activist and trainer, Sujata has more than a decade of experience in the development sector working for the cause of underprivileged children, adolescents and women. She is a former founder-member of Empowering Minds; a Delhi based NGO focusing on education and mental health issues of women and children. She was on the international steering committee of the Parents Empowering Parents (PEP) program – a psychosocial program for the bleeding disorders community. She was trained in the US for the program and has imparted psychosocial training and support to parents, caregivers and medical professionals working in this niche area of hemophilia care. In 2017 she initiated her talk therapy based platform, The Talk – it – Out – Express (TiOE); an initiative to encourage people resolve bad feelings and enhance emotional well-being. In 2018 Sujata was one among the top hundred women to receive the “100 Women Faces 2018” award for her contribution to literature and the social sector. The award is instituted by Womennovator and Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs (COWE). She was also conferred the Karamveer Chakra Award 2016- instituted by iCongo in association with the UN. She received the second Karmaveer Chakra in 2019. The award is given to individuals who bring about a positive social impact in the lives of people and planet.
