A session at the Ahmedabad International Book Festival (AIBF) titled Undercover Heroines: Reimagining the Role of Women was canceled after backlash on social media over the inclusion of left-leaning authors Kiran Manral and Savie Karnel. Scheduled for December 4, the session was removed from the festival's revised schedule.

Both authors, known for spreading anti-Modi and anti-Hindu rhetoric, faced online criticism after being listed as speakers. The National Book Trust, which organizes the AIBF, omitted the session from the updated schedule, and the festival's website was temporarily down, reportedly for updates.

The AIBF 2024 boasts 147 publishers, distributors, and booksellers from across India. It also features a children’s film festival with 40 films from 24 countries and over 100 literary sessions spanning segments like “Children’s Pavilion,” “Writers’ Corner,” and “Cultural Stage.” Authors from Spain, Poland, Scotland, and other countries are part of the event.

While the details of the canceled session remain controversial, the festival continues to attract attention for its expansive programming and diverse participation.
