3 Odias selected under PM’s scheme

Bhubaneswar: The National Book Trust (NBT), an apex body of the Ministry of Education to produce good literature and promote books in Indian languages, announced the results of an all India competition organized under the theme ‘National Movement of India’ under the Youth Pradhan Mantri Scheme for mentoring young writers.
Thousands of youth had submitted their applications for the competition, but only 75 youths including three from Odisha have been selected from the country. The three youths- Omm Priyadarshi Chotaray, indecent Narayan Singh, and Dileshwar Rana- belongs to the Odia language category.
Official sources said the scheme would ensure to create a pool of writers below the age of 30. After mentoring, young writers will become proficient in writing in various genres like fiction, non-fiction, travelogue, memoir, drama, poetry, etc.
“The scheme will not only help develop a stream of writers who can write on a spectrum of subjects to promote Indian heritage, culture, and knowledge but also help aspiring youths to express themselves in their mother tongue and learn more about India. provide a window to represent. International level,” said official sources.
Choteray, alumnus of NIT Rourkela Said that his special interest in writing inspired him to participate in a national level context. “I didn’t expect my name to appear in the list of 75 candidates. I am happy to be selected for this scheme by NBT.
He said that there are two phases in the counseling plan. In the first phase, a two-week online writers’ program will be conducted for the selected candidates, followed by a two-week online/onsite training programme. In the second phase, they will get exposure through interaction in various international events like literary festivals, book fairs, virtual book fairs and cultural exchange events.
At the end of the mentorship, Chhotrei said that under the scheme a scholarship of Rs 50,000 per month would be paid per writer for a period of six months. As an outcome of the programme, NBT will publish books written by young authors. A royalty of 10 percent will be payable to the authors on the successful publication of their books. “Our books can be translated into other languages. Since I am from a village in Paika and working on their issues, I will write a book on the contribution of Paika in the freedom movement during this consultation programme,” said the young writer, who hails from Khurda district.
