Dindigul Book Fair Successfully Concludes its Rendition

I. Periyasamy, Minister for Cooperation, stated on Sunday that books are a source of inspiration and guidance that helps in forging one's course in life and that reading them would enhance one's thinking and creativity.

Speaking at the Dindigul book fair's closing ceremony, which took place at Dudley Higher Secondary School from October 6–16, was Dindigul Ilakkiya Kalam and the district government. There was collector S. Visakan.

Mr. Periysamy recalled the moments in his school years when he was engrossed in literature, even while he was in jail, and how his mother was a voracious reader. He advised individuals to read for an hour before bed to have a decent night's rest and establish a regular pattern.

Speaking to the media, the Minister said that the exhibition had generated impressive sales of 1.5 crores.

"Considering that the fair was organized after a two-year hiatus owing to the COVID-19 epidemic, the foot traffic reported throughout the fair's 11 days, which included 120 stalls, reached more than 1.5 lakh, which is quite promising. Even the rain could not stop vast groups of people from attending the fair, according to R. Manoharan, president of Dindigul Ilakiya Kalam.

He mentioned that tokens worth more than 60 lakh rupees were provided to school and college students to encourage them to purchase books. This was successful in the end.

"Students from 140 public and private schools in the district visited the fair, and many instructors and professors used the tokens that gave them a 15% discount to purchase books for their libraries. Students in schools received about 25,000 hundis as incentives to start saving money for books.

Veerayuga Nayagan Velpaari is a novel about a tribal ruler authored by Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan came in second. Ponniyin Selvan, a historical novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, topped the rankings. According to Mr. Manoharan, another book published at the exhibition, Dindukallil Ezhuthiya Varalaaru, was written by M. Vallalar, the Textile Commissioner, and was quite popular.

The literary luminaries at the fair included Dindigul I. Leoni, Andal Priyadharshini, and Bava Chelladurai. Each day of the fair featured events honoring a different artist, including the musicians S.P. Balasubramaniam and Bamba Bakya, the writer Pudhumaipithan, the actors "Paravai" Muniyamma, and "Poo" Ramu.

Shields were given to 39 persons, including individuals and officials of educational institutions, for buying books at the fair that totaled more than 30,000 yen.

The occasion also honored 32 teachers who between the academic years of 2019 and 2022 earned the State's Dr. Radhakrishnan Awards.
