Amritsar's Book Festival Offers Readers a Literary Feast

Kitablovers, a bookselling website, in cooperation with publishing firm Rajpal & Sons, has organized Amritsar's first morning-to-night book fair at the VR Ambarsar Mall. Amritsar has a rich history and tradition of reading and writing, but there aren't enough book cafes, libraries, and shops to match the demand. The fair has established an entertaining library with books in English and Hindi. Readers can choose from bestselling authors from India and outside, like JK Rowling and Harivansh Rai Bachchan, as well as books on drama, history, and mythology.

An intriguing part of the exhibition is the creation of a special "Load The Box" segment for book enthusiasts to come and select a load of books packaged in a box at reasonable costs. "Customers that visit the fair can pay once and fill the box with as many books as it can contain. Subhash Jediya, a Rajpal and Sons spokesman, said the boxes come in three sizes ranging from Rs 1,200 to Rs 3,000.

There is also a separate part of regional literature, as well as poetry, which has long captivated Amritsar audiences. Rumi, Ghalib, Sahir Ludhianvi, Momin, Allama Iqbal, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Firaq Gorakhpuri, and others are among the participants.

If that isn't tempting enough, there's an entire shelf dedicated to the Kalajeyi Kavi series, which includes works by Kabir, Surdas, Tulsidas, Baba Nanak, Bulleh Shah, Meera, Amir Khusro, and Rahim. "We've had a tremendous reaction to our Hindi poetry books, which is encouraging from a non-Hindi belt. With book reading habits declining in the digital age, our goal is to promote vernacular literature while also ensuring that we obtain novels that are not widely available. So far, the experience indicates that Amritsar has a strong reading culture, and readers are pleased to find a diverse range of books," said Jediya.
