The Vizag Junior Literary Fest (VJLF) returns for its fifth edition, promising to ignite a passion for literature and theatre among children in today's digital age. Set for November 23 and 24, 2024, at Hawa Mahal Beach Road, the event is organized by the Lit Lantern for Culture & Literature Welfare Society, a non-profit organization. Catering to children aged 4 to 16, the fest will feature a variety of theatre performances, literary activities, and storytelling sessions. Since its inception in 2018, VJLF has attracted over 3,000 participants, offering experiences that engage both young and adult audiences alike.

This year's edition will host 60 sessions over two days, with 19 speakers, including notable figures in literature and education such as Roopa Pai, Kapil Pandey, and Jeeva Raghunath. A special outreach initiative will take place prior to the festival, where storytellers will visit municipal schools to introduce students to the festival’s themes.

The festival lineup includes theatrical performances like adaptations of the Panchatantra and Indian folklore, such as Vikram and Betaal, by the Pune-based Swatantra Theatre Group. Workshops on creative writing, dramatized readings, panel discussions, teacher training using storytelling, and a book fair featuring Indian publishers will further enrich the experience. Organizers highlight the importance of fostering a love for literature and theatre in a digitally-driven world, aiming to help children expand their mental horizons and embrace values of tolerance and understanding. Session registrations will open on October 19, from 11 am to 6 pm.
