The Udupi Kannada Sahitya Parishat’s Maneye Granthalaya initiative is a great move which has been made towards inculcating the reading habit in the society. The campaign has been quite successful, and so far, we have given out 2,278 books.
Raviraj HP, the president of Udupi taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat, expressed his astonishment by the response received for the said campaign. In his statement, he said, “We are indeed surprised by the enthusiasm towards the campaign.” The motive here is to encourage reading Kannada books and develop reading habits among people, especially children.

Stating further about the campaign's success, he mentioned, “One of the most rewarding aspects of the campaign is that it extended beyond setting up small reading corners or libraries at homes; we have established them in shops, salons and hospitals as well.”
Initially concerned about declining reading habits, Raviraj said the campaign’s success has been uplifting. however, to date, they have distributed 2,278 books and managed to set up 100 libraries in 100 days.
The campaign’s success has reached beyond Udupi, with a donor from Yeshvanthpur, Bengaluru, contributing Rs 1,000 after learning about the initiative on social media. Requests for books have come from various sources, including a salon owner aiming to replace mobile phone use with reading. Additionally, a publisher from Bengaluru has pledged further donations, and another donor has offered 500 books yet to be collected.
Currently, the campaign is managed by Raghavendra Prabhu Karvalo and Janardhan Kodavoor, with the ongoing support of the local community and beyond.
