Ghazi Salauddin Tanvir, 'Special Assistant' of Chief Adviser, has allegedly harassed a few officials of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) and some other book printers for delay in printing textbooks.
Gazi Salauddin Tanvir, Joint Member Secretary of Central Executive Committee of the Jatiya Nagorik Party, informed this reporter that there has been undue delay in printing of text books.
He had cautioned officials of the book distribution and production units. He even visited different presses and allegedly compelled authorities to finish publishing books.
Tanvir also rationalized his actions by stating, 'because of my threats and intimidation, 96 percent of the work is now finished. 4 percent of the remaining work will be finished this week.". Books will be distributed to national students on 10th of March. It has numerous employees and leaders of the fascist Awami League who are in NCTB. They don't wish to labor. So, I was left with no alternative but to threaten them. He also said later, I am not among Government Advisors. 'I have never been a Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor. But the Chief Advisor hears me out whatever I say. And I have not crossed limits other than issuing threats to NCTB officials and book publishers."
While reporting from an Iftar Party on Thursday night, organized at the capital's Bangla Motor area, it was observed that Tanvir was busy giving instructions to Sarjis Alam, the Chief Organizer (Northern Region) of the Jatiya Nagorik Party's Central Convening Committee.
One Maulana who was present on the ground, on conditions of anonymity, mentioned, "He (Tanvir) and I grew up in the same location. His residence is in Maltinagar, Bogura. But he goes to Tablighi Jamaat. And he is a supporter of Maulana Sad. He was with Maulana Saad seen at Ijtema. But this aside i know nothing about him."
But National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Chairman Professor Dr AKM Riazul Hasan said, "Tanvir was brought to us by the then outgoing Education Advisor. The Advisor afterwards said that he would tackle education-related issues. That's why we are taking him to different conferences."
But some officials of NCTB who requested anonymity said, "Tanvir came and intimidated us."
A publisher of a textbook informed us that we are working, and only the government officials can direct us. But a Maulana (Tanvir) threatened us.
