Sukrita Paul Kumar, a Poet, has Won the Tagore Literary Prize

The Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize was presented to poet-critic Sukrita Paul Kumar for her work 'Salt & Pepper: Selected Poems' in its sixth edition. Kumar received a USD 5,000 award, a Tagore statue, and a diploma for his service to writing at the award event on Monday.

"Being awarded the sixth Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize is a profoundly humbling experience." This honour not only recognises my artistic journey, but it also highlights the universality of storytelling in connecting people from different cultures. "I am deeply grateful for this recognition," the 74-year-old poet stated.

The award, founded in 2018 by Peter Bundalo, a US-based publisher, is a platform for international peace, literature, art, education, and human rights. It also awards the Social Achievement Prize for contributions to human rights and world peace.

Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee received the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize for social achievement for his contributions to societal welfare.

"Winning the Tagore Prize for Social Achievement is a tremendous honour." This accolade emphasises the importance of solving societal concerns and the influence of collective efforts in making a better society," Banerjee said in a statement.

Last year, the award was granted to journalist-author Raj Kamal Jha for his work "The City and the Sea."
