According to officials, Infosys Foundation Chairman Sudha Murty was picked as part of a 19-member team formed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to help modify textbooks in accordance with the new curriculum.
The National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC) will be led by MC Pant, chancellor of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), and will prepare textbooks for grades 3–12. Other panel members include economist Sanjeev Samyal and music musician Shankar Mahadevan.
According to the terms of reference, the panel will be tasked with assisting in the development of textbooks and other learning resources that will be used by NCERT.
"Curricular Area Groups (CAGs) will assist the NSTC in developing teaching-learning materials for each curricular area." The chairperson and co-chairperson of NSTC, with the assistance of NCERT, shall organize these groups, which will include appropriate specialists for the subject.
Many topics were removed from NCERT textbooks in May, sparking a controversy. At the heart of the controversy was the fact that, while the changes were made as part of a rationalisation exercise, some of the controversial deletions were not mentioned, leading to allegations of a covert attempt to remove these portions.
