Honoring Sharjah as the Guest of Honour at this renowned cultural event acknowledges its significant role as one of the key World Book Capitals.
Sharjah has been invited as the Guest of Honour at the Thessaloniki International Book Fair 2024, which will take place from May 16 to 19. The emirate will host a number of workshops, book signings, panel discussions, and literary and artistic performances that highlight Emirati heritage, values, and arts.
"Sharjah has long been celebrated as a beacon of Emirati and Arab identity, and we remain committed to fostering robust cross-cultural communication that transcends borders," stated Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, chairman of Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), emphasising the importance of this celebration.
"Events like the Thessaloniki International Book Fair are crucial for connecting the publishing industry and content creators." "The event provides an invaluable opportunity for Emirati cultural entities and industry experts to form meaningful collaborations with their counterparts in Greece and elsewhere," she said.

At the occasion, SBA will present an exhibition titled 'Philosophies: Visual Simulation'. It is an artistic endeavor inspired by the words of well-known Greek and Arab thinkers who could think and write in both languages.
A group of Emirati and Greek painters, including Nasser Nasrallah, Rashid Al Mulla, Alia Al Hammadi, Daniela Stemtiadi, Vassilios Grivas, and Antonios Nikolopolis, will work together to transform philosophical phrases, expressions, and meanings into emotive paintings.

Sharjah will also have panel talks on 'Emerging Literature and Future Challenges' and 'Cultural Connections between Arabs and Greece', as well as a session on 'Challenges of the Short Story in the Time of the Novel'.
Emirati and Arab poets will convene in 'Poetic Meeting' to discuss 'The Impact of Greek Philosophy on Literature'.
There will also be artistic and musical performances, henna sessions, tastings of Emirati traditional cuisine, book signing ceremonies, Arabic calligraphy, and an art display.
