Rabat Book Fair 2025 Welcomes 700 Exhibitors Worldwide

The Rabat International Book Fair's 30th installment is currently under way, welcoming readers, authors, and publishers from across the globe. Running from April 17 to April 27, the fair brings together 700 exhibitors from 48 countries. The stands are lined with books in Arabic, English, and French on a variety of subjects ranging from history and technology to literature and science.

This year, the Sharjah emirate is guest of honor, which emphasizes the close cultural cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Morocco. A number of Emirati writers and poets are attending book signings, workshops, and panel sessions during the fair.

Education for children and technology are also center stage this year's exhibition. Yassine Laghmich of the Home Applied Training publishing house exhibited their cutting-edge line of interactive children's books. "The publishing house works on uniting technology and reading, developing books for children that blend the two," Laghmich said. Their books have bilingual material in Arabic and English with in-built devices so that children can listen and interact with the content.

For researchers and students, the fair is still a valuable source. "The Book Fair is very important and is held every year, enabling Moroccan readers to discover new books," stated Riad Chniter, owner of Editions Sotumedias of Tunisia. He noted that university students frequently attend to seek valuable material for studies.

In the face of the digital era, there is still much hope for physical books. Othmane Laraqui, an English bookshop owner, said sales of physical books skyrocketed in the COVID-19 lockdown periods worldwide, a phenomenon he maintains still holds today. "Physical books have never been as real as today," said Laraqui.

Apart from the books, the fair also comprises cultural seminars, book signings, and family activities that endorse Rabat's position as a center for intellectual and cultural exchange since the fair began in 1987.
