“The Psychology of Democracy” Translated into Persian

Nazi Akbari has translated the book and Qoqnoos Publishing House has published it in 159 pages, ILNA added.

"The Psychology of Democracy" describes the psychological basis for why individuals connect with and get involved in politics. Discussing the role that media and political campaigns have, the book examines current and actual political issues such as the Arab Spring, Brexit, Black Lives Matter, the 2020 U.S. elections, and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lilleker and Ozgul lead the reader on a path to examine the mental processes involved in responding to a political news story from start to finish to taking to the streets in protest at government action and policy.

In a post-truth and populist era, "The Psychology of Democracy" teaches us that a healthy and robust democracy relies on the emotions and sentiments of its citizens, such as trust, belongingness, empowerment, and representation, as much as on electoral mechanisms.

Darren G. Lilleker is associate professor in political communication at Bournemouth University, UK, and author of "Political Communication and Cognition".

Billur Aslan Ozgul is a political communication lecturer at Brunel University, London, UK, and a book author titled "Leading Protests in the Digital Age: Youth Activism in Egypt and Syria.".
