Korean Publishers Shine at London Book Fair 2024

The London Book Fair, one of the world's biggest publishing events, took place from March 11-13 at Olympia London and drew thousands of authors, publishers, and book lovers from all over the globe. Publishers from Korea, Germany, France, Greece, and Italy displayed their latest titles at the fair.

Korean publishers were represented at Grand Hall 6D. BookGoodCome showcased a stunning array of children's illustrated books, such as "Sticky Sticky" by Lee Seung-beom, a touching tale of strange yellow water that shows up in a forest, mystifying its animal residents. The exciting story keeps children on the edge of their seats, wondering what will happen next on each page.

Another title was "Please Pick Up the Ball" by Chayada. This is a comic and moving picture book about a rabbit that balls over a fence and rolls down the street. Not being able to get it back, the rabbit approaches people passing by , who include an old turtle, soldiers, and even a rhinoceros, and makes for a fun story.

Darakwon, established in 1977 and focused on language learning materials, offered new and creative learning resources. Its six-volume Vitamin Korean for TOPIK series has colorful designs and in-depth content, and its well-structured learning process with topic-based units and activities is within reach of all nationalities of learners.

Another Darakwon title on show at the fair was "50 Folktales for Learners of Korean," which marries language learning and traditional storytelling. Providing tales such as "The Tiger and the Dried Persimmon" with colorful pictures, the series provides information on Korean history as well as practice in language use, with QR codes for an audio version of the stories.

The fair also gave a platform for networking to international publishers and authors. As Korean culture continues to gain more popularity globally,the  London Book Fair this year had a strong participation by Korean publishing.
