HarperCollins Launches New Imprint, HARPER DESIGN | Frontlist

HarperCollins has unveiled its new imprint, HARPER DESIGN, which is set to focus on areas of design, arts, architecture, lifestyle, and popular culture. The imprint's vision emphasizes that design should be an inclusive space for creativity and stories, where they believe that designers interpret the world through their work and evolving trends that reflect societal trends at large.

Bonita Vaz-Shimray, Art Director and Publisher, will lead HARPER DESIGN in India. She shared that the imprint will showcase innovative works that foregrounds design and its convergence with the everyday life, aiming to make design accessible to a wider audience. The list will highlight the exceptional work of artists and designers in the subcontinent.

Ananth Padmanabhan, CEO of HarperCollins India, added that HARPER DESIGN complements the diverse catalog of books published by HarperCollins, enhancing its offerings with a focus on arts and aesthetics.

Despite the rise of digital content, print publications remain significant, and with HARPER DESIGN, HarperCollins is dedicated to working with talented creative minds to discover topical content with sustainable practices. The imprint's first list, starting in January 2022, includes several unique books:

  • A Full Circle by Namrita Bachchan, an illustrated work exploring childhood through the eyes of a young child and the magic of reading.
  • Mumbai: A City through Objects, a collaboration with the Bhau Daji Lad Museum, delving into the making of the city through its object stories by Tasneem Zakaria Mehta.
  • JayaFlava, a book exploring Sri Lanka through its food history through diverse recipes and street food traditions by Tasha Marikkar.

Later releases include Influential Dining, a guide to India’s finest dining experiences curated by Ayaz and Zameer Basrai, and Human by Chance, Humane by Design by Kiran Bir Sethi, which explores design philosophy in education. Additionally, a co-publication with the Alkazi Foundation for the Arts will highlight photography in the subcontinent, offering a historical, social, and political perspective.
