Goa Writers Celebrate World Book Day by Showcasing 1,061 Books Published During Pandemic

On Wednesday, writers from Goa who had written and published their writings during the Covid-19 epidemic gathered to reintroduce their works in honor of World Book Day. From 2019 until the present, 1,061 books have been authored and published.

Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai stated that writers should write in regional languages to increase reading.

Although he said that Mahatma Gandhi was one of the finest authors and knew both Gujarati and English, most of his writings were written in Gujarati. At the World Book Day celebrations at the library, the governor said, "He always used simple language in his literature."

The governor said that only one's mother language could assist one in understanding the true meaning of literature by citing examples of some of the greatest authors and their works. He mentioned the renowned speaker and freedom warrior Ram Manohar Lohia, whose writings are accessible at the Raj Bhavan Library.

Pillai urged the literary community to "educate and enlighten the masses" on numerous topics, telling them that the satisfaction of doing so is sufficient to enable them to carry on with their excellent job.

"Writing can show outsiders the harmony among our nation's citizens. Give authors more chances to shape a great future for our nation, he said.

At the Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto, Panaji's Krishnadas Shama Goa State Central Library, an exhibition of these books will be on display till April 30.

Sushant Tandel, the Goa State Central Library curator, told TOI that the event "allowed all the writers to speak about how they overcame the difficulties of the pandemic and wrote their books or went about its publication."

He continued by saying that Goans need to develop a stronger reading culture.
