The 31st Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF) was opened at the China National Convention Center, where more than 1,700 companies from over 80 nations and regions were assembled. Recognized as one of the world's biggest literary fairs, the event is being featured with approximately 220,000 Chinese and international books.
Originally established in 1986, BIBF has been developed into the world's second-largest book fair and is regarded as an important forum for cross-cultural exchange and international literary understanding. This year, literature that promotes global knowledge about Chinese civilization is being focused on, with Malaysia being honored as the Guest Country.
The fair was attended by high-ranking officials, including Li Shulei, member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, whose presence was used to inspect the fair's contents and influence.
Special national pavilions have been set up by over 20 nations—France, Germany, and Japan among them. Specially selected foreign-language titles are being showcased by well-known international publishers such as Springer Nature, Penguin Random House, and Wiley, so international readership can be engaged.
Digital publishing innovations are also being featured prominently at this year’s fair. New efforts in online literature, interactive gaming, and next-generation storytelling platforms are being showcased by top Chinese technology firms such as Tencent, Douyin, and NetEase, thereby demonstrating the swift development of China's digital content sector.
The Beijing Book Fair 2025 will remain open until June 22, and its status as a great cultural bridge between China and the international publishing community continues to be augmented.
