The Press Club of India (PCI) will be organizing its inaugural grand literary festival and book fair at its New Delhi, Raisina Road premises between February 28 to 1st March, 2025. This event will be held from 11:00 AM to 6:30 PM, spread over two days, and will be made available to club members, their families, friends, and the public.
The main focus of this event is to create a platform for club members who have written books in English, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, and other Indian languages. The bestsellers of 2024-2025 and classic literature will also be presented, giving readers a platform to discover both new and old works.
Referring to the initiative, Club President Gautam Lahiri has stated, "Through this event, we want to celebrate the strong symbiotic relationship between book writing and journalism. This is why the club will also host books by celebrated journalists who might not be members of the club but whose writings have made important contributions to the public sphere of issues. Such writers will get special invitations from the club."
The festival is being hosted by a seasoned team, comprising the club's Vice President Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty, Executive Member Surabhi Kanga, and Mehtab Alam, who heads the club's award-winning program, "PCI Conversation."
Key bookshops from Delhi will also be joining the festival, providing visitors with the chance to browse and buy a wide variety of literary texts. The club will have a special stall displaying books by members whose publishers do not have outlets in Delhi or whose books can only be accessed online.
Moreover, writers will also get a unique chance to market their books. They can place personal standees at the club stall for a small charge, which they have to pay to Club Manager Jitendra Singh. The club is also providing a pre-booking facility for authors who have yet to publish their books. Members interested in this can place a standee at the club for a small amount so that readers can pre-book their future publications.
Writers willing to showcase their book standees or do pre-order bookings need to get in touch with Jitendra Singh by February 20. Four significant panel discussions will also be organized, along with the book fair, where esteemed journalists will offer their perspectives on writing, media, press freedom, and social problems.
Because no festival is ever complete without sumptuous food, the two-day festival will also have stalls selling traditional foods from various states. There is a range of dishes to eat, ranging from Northeast specialties to Kashmiri, Bengali cuisine, Mughlai fare from Delhi, and street food favorites.
