Patthupattu to be released as one of 29 books by Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister

By the third week of September, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin plans to release 29 volumes, including Patthupattu, a part of Sangam literary works with commentary.

Except for Patthupattu, all of the 29 books have been translated from English as part of the Muthamizh Arignar Translation Project launched by the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation. It addresses a wide range of issues.

"We are also releasing the translation of the Venkatraman Physics series, which is favoured by IIT and other higher education institutes." "The series is similar to Nobel Laureate Richard Feynman's Feynman Lectures on Physics," said Sankara Saravanan, the Corporation's Joint Director of Translation.

Some of the books translated from English are Gurucharan Das' India Unbound, Fali S. Nariman's India's Legal System, and Kanakalatha Mukund's The View from Below. "The Chief Minister will also publish books in Tamil for students studying mechanical and civil engineering." "The novels were first published by S.S. Chand," Mr. Saravanan explained.

He stated that the Corporation was actively engaging in book fairs across the State and had sold books worth 25 lakh in the previous two years. "We have incredibly rare books, especially those from the 1960s and 1970s." "We were able to trace 635 of the 865 books published during that time span," Mr. Saravanan said.

The Corporation, which has decided to publish all Sangam literary masterpieces with commentary, has finished the Patthupattu annotations.

"We're putting the finishing touches on it. The commentaries are written by qualified individuals. "They are written in such a way that even a 10th grade student might grasp them," stated P. Saravanan, the project's Assistant Director and general editor.

He hoped that the works will pique the attention of the younger generation in old Tamil classics. The cost is also reasonable. Patthupattu's ten books can be purchased for 600 rupees.
