NCERT stated that a few unscrupulous publishers are producing NCERT school textbooks available on the NCERT website under their own names without first obtaining authorization from NCERT.
The NCERT advises the government on school education.
The advisory board stated that NCERT, which is in charge of generating and disseminating textbooks for all levels of school education, has long been recognized as an authorized repository of educational teaching and learning resources.
The NCERT stated that any individual or business who publishes NCERT textbooks for commercial sale in whole or in part, or incorporates NCERT textbook content in such publishing, without first getting copyright authorization from NCERT, will be prosecuted under the Copyright Act 1957.
"The general public is advised to avoid such textbooks or workbooks since their material may be factually wrong and contradict the main principle of NCF 2023. Anyone who finds such pirated textbooks or workbooks should immediately notify NCERT through email at pd.ncert@nic.in,” the official added.
The advisory board further stated that any publisher wishing to use the name of NCERT in any publication may make a proposal to the Publication Division NCERT, Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi-16 or by email at secy.ncert@nic.in.
Rajesh Kumar, Deputy Secretary of NCERT, stated that the advise against copyright infringement in the usage of NCERT-designed and generated educational resources is being released as a public notice. Stakeholders are required to follow the Copyrights Advisory provided by NCERT in letter and spirit. Do not infringe on copyright in NCERT-developed educational materials.
