Mohali district would receive 12 libraries at a cost of Rs 3.6 crore, six of which will be built in the Mohall constituency alone.
This was expressed by Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh on Tuesday, when he began building of libraries in Mauli Baidwan, Bhago Majra, and Maujpur villages.
The move is part of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's commitment to instilling reading habits in teenagers and young people at the local level, according to the MLA.
MLA Kulwant Singh revealed that the libraries will cost about Rs 30 lakh each.
He kicked off building work in Maull Baldwan, Bhago Majra, and Maujpur villages by handing over the first installment of Rs 10 lakh each to the panchayats and performing a ground-breaking ceremony.
"These world-class libraries would be outfitted with cutting-edge technology to make them a dream come true for bookworms. These would include air conditioners, inverters, CCTV cameras, and wi-fi," MLA Kulwant Singh stated.
He went on to say that libraries would be beneficial in changing the behaviour of the district's teens and youth.
"Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann enjoys literature and feels that by making good reading available to the state's young through these libraries, he may channel their energy into constrictive thoughts.
