K-Books to shine at London Book Fair 2024! The Culture Ministry promotes Korean literature with top publishers, award-winning titles, and global rights deals.on Mar 10, 2025

On Monday, the Culture Ministry announced that it will open a booth at the London Book Fair to promote local books through exportation. Representatives from 10 local publishers will be at the fair from March 11 to 13, where they will be able to negotiate copyright deals and sell their materials to potential overseas buyers through the ministry's "Rights Centre." Among these will be “B(B) Cut for You” by Lee Geum-yi, who was short-listed for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2024, plus other titles by Jung Se-rang and Park Sang-young, said the Culture Ministry. In addition, an extra 101 titles from 38 other publishers will be displayed for agents, distributors, and publishers to freely browse through at the fair. Chief among these will be the picture book Isaga by Lee Ji-eyon, which has received a special mention from the 2023 Bologna Ragazzi Prize, and Vacation by Lee Myung-ae, which was included in the IBBY Silent Book Honor List in 2023. The Culture Ministry said it will continue supporting the overseas expansion of domestic publishing houses by establishing export counseling booths at the Bologna Children's Book Fair in Italy in late March, the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany in October, and the Shanghai Children's Book Fair in China in November. "As the UK is an important gateway to the Anglo-American publishing market, we hope that 'K-Book' will actively enter this market, starting with its participation at the London Book Fair," said Lim Sung-hwan, Director of Media Policy from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. "The ministry will continue to spare no effort in supporting domestic publishing companies for stable overseas advancement and bridging their market positions globally."
London Book Fair is the greatest book fair in the UK, being the only book fair devoted entirely to business-to-business trades and not business-to-consumer trades. Over a thousand exhibitors and over thirty thousand publishing professionals make their way over from over one hundred countries each year to sell books and content rights and exchange their expertise and skills in more than one hundred seminars.
