The inaugural Jakarta Content Week (Jaktent) is set to be held virtually from Nov. 11 to 15, featuring a total of around 140 events and 300 speakers worldwide. The event consists of seven sections, namely LitBeat as interactive conferences on best practices of the creative industry; LitFest as a platform for international and Indonesian authors; LitFilm as a film festival and forum; LitTrade as a platform to gain knowledge about intellectual property (IP) trade and to expand network; The Market as a marketplace for IP, books, films, food and beverage and other creative contents; LitBite as a place to learn about the culinary industry; and CosplayFest for cosplay enthusiasts to show their best performances and win a total prize of Rp 10.5 million (US$714.22). Among speakers at the event are writer Nirwan Dewanto, journalist-writer Desi Anwar, poet Joko Pinurbo, poet-author M. Aan Mansyur, author Ayu Utami, director of Global Challenges Division Marion Dietterich, founder of startup Wahyoo Peter Shearer, comic artist Andik Prayogo, director of Phonographic Performance David Stopps, writer Kevindra Soemantri, coffee consultant Adi Taroepratjeka, film producer Sheila Timothy, filmmaker Edwin, author Eka Kurniawan and filmmaker Nia Dinata. Jaktent program manager David Irianto said the event would highlight literacy in broader terms. “Not only it's in a literature perspective, but [it's] also [about] digital literacy, disaster literacy, environment literacy, social issues literacy and other aspects outside literacy itself,” said David in a press conference on Thursday. Alongside participating in workshops, film screenings and discussions, people will also be able to virtually meet other investors or publishers to further develop their IPs and works, particularly at The Market section. “We’d like to invite everyone in the creative industry to join and become exhibitors,” said Melvi, curator of The Market. “There’ll be several stages, starting from [free] registration to selection. Chosen participants can then upload their details and products that will be displayed as virtual exhibitors.” Several events will be available for free, but some masterclasses and networking sessions require participants to purchase tickets online. Three types of tickets are available with prices ranging from Rp 100,000 (US$6.81) to Rp 750,000. Additionally, the event will have a special section titled The NextDev Summit @Jaktent by Telkomsel, as a collaboration between Jaktent and cellular operator Telkomsel. The section connects a number of key players in the technology industry and will facilitate their collaborations to enhance Indonesia’s digital economy. Denny Abidin, Telkomsel’s VP corporate communication, said that The NextDev Summit would feature inspiring classes accessible by the young generations. The focus will be on startups and how to create social impacts through technology. Jakarta Content Week is organized by the world’s largest publishing event, Frankfurt Book Fair and 17000 Pulau Imaji Foundation. Laura Bangun Prinsloo, head of 17000 Pulau Imaji Foundation, said the event aimed to be a creative industry hub in the Asia Pacific and to take Indonesia’s creative industry to the global scene. She has planned the event for the next two years, especially in 2022 when Indonesia hosts the 33rd International Publishers Congress. “This year’s event is the beginning of even bigger events in the future,” Laura said.
