New Collection of Books from India Launched at Parsippany Library

The Parsippany Library launched its India Collection of Books, supported by GOPIO, the Indian Consulate, and local groups, celebrating Indian culture and literature.

The Parsippany Library in New Jersey recently revealed its India Collection of Books in collaboration with the Global Organization of People of India Origin-North Jersy chapter, supported by the Indian Consulate, New York, as well as local groups such as Parsippany Rotary International and Heart and Hand for Handicapped. The event took place on September 29th.

Pragya Singh, the Indian consul for Visa and Community Affairs, officially opened the event and highlighted the Consulate’s dedication to assisting local Indian organizations. The Indian Consulate generously provided a wide range of books, including both new releases and rare classics, in addition to receiving contributions from the community.

Melisa Kuzma, the president of the library, expressed gratitude for the diverse book donations and announced an upcoming Diwali celebration in October. Mayor Barberio acknowledged the valuable contributions of Indian Americans in Parsippany and commended the enthusiastic reception of the India Initiative at the library.

Thomas Abraham, the chairman of GOPIO International, mentioned that various GOPIO chapters have introduced the India Collection of books at libraries in Norwalk, Stamford, Edison, Queens, and Long Island.

Upendra Chivukula, New Jersey commissioner, encouraged Indian Americans to actively participate in local politics to enhance their representation. Ponnala Lakshmaiah, former Telangana Minister, shared his journey from working in a library at the age of six to donating his autobiography to the Parsippany Library.

Rajendar Dichpally, the director of the Gandhian Society, and Santosh Peddi, the program co-chair and president of Parsippany Rotary International, also delivered speeches at the event.
