Hyderabad Book Fair to be held from December 18

Hyderabad: The annual national book fair of Hyderabad is all set to make a comeback after a gap of one year. The 34th edition of the Hyderabad National Book Fair, which had to be put on hold last year, is all set to be resurrected.

Being conducted by Hyderabad Book Fair Society, the national book fair will be held from December 18 to 27 at the Telangana Kala Bharti (NTR Stadium). While on weekdays i.e from Monday to Friday the book fair will be held from 2.30 pm to 8.30 pm, on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, it will be from 12.30 pm to 9 pm. In continuation with its tradition, the book fair will provide free entry to students with ID cards.

“Last year, due to Covid-19 we could not hold the book fair. However, now we are delighted to be back after a gap of one year. We are expecting about 300 stalls/publishers to participate in the fair this year. We have a separate stall for Telugu language writers’ books and also apart from the stalls we will also be having activities like storytelling, painting, dancing, cultural programmes, and poetry reading,” a spokesperson of the Hyderabad Book Fair Society informed.

The first Hyderabad Book Fair was held in the year 1985 at City Central Library, Ashok Nagar in Hyderabad. Later on, the Book Fairs were held at Nizam College Grounds, Public Gardens, Exhibition Grounds, Keshav Memorial High School Ground, etc. Since the formation of Telangana, the book fair has been continuously running at Telangana Kala Bharati (NTR Grounds).

After the bifurcation of the united Andhra Pradesh this book fair running in a different way involving the book lovers, writers, and Telugu literary personalities with the help of the government of Telangana. The Hyderabad Book Fair Society has initiated the fairs in different districts such as Khammam, Warangal, Karimnagar, Kottagudem, Kodad, Mahabubnagar, Kamareddy, Wanaparthy, etc.
