In recent months, the Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi Library (GSNL) in Karnataka has digitized nearly 11,700 books, now distributed to Gandhi Bhavans nationwide to broaden their reach.
Carl Malamud, the founder of Servants of Knowledge, a U.S.-based non-profit organization, handed over the digitized books to the representatives on Sunday, August 25. He mentioned the organization's willingness to digitise additional books embodying Gandhian principles.
The digitized collection includes various works such as 'The Collected Works of Gandhi', Nav Jeevan trust pamphlets, biographies by Pyare Lal Nayyar, 126 audio recordings of Gandhi's speeches on AIR (All India Radio), 107 volumes of 'Selected works of Jawaharlal Nehru', books authored by Rana Kishan and Subhash Chandra Bose, and literature in 12 different languages.
This handover occurred during the closing ceremony of a two-day international seminar on 'Gandhi in the 21st Century' to honour the 75th anniversary of Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi.
H.K. Patil, Minister of Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislation of Karnataka, raised concerns about the critical value of Gandhian such as Satyagraha. He expressed apprehension regarding the newly enacted criminal law code, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and its potential implications for Satyagraha.
