Women of Kansas Barton County Chapter invites all to celebrate Women’s History Month with a Zoom presentation by Dr. Teri Finneman, University of Kansas associate professor, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 21. Finneman will present “No Voice, No Vote: The Struggle to Get the Ballot and Why It Still Matters.” Those who don’t have access to Zoom technology are welcome to attend at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center in the auditorium. Masks are required along with social distancing. Contact Pam Martin by email: butterfly@hbcomm.net, or by calling 620-285-1083 to register. A journalism historian, Finneman will discuss the history of the women’s suffrage movement, why it took decades to get the right to vote and why this story isn’t over yet. Author of “Press Portrayals of Women Politicians, 1870s-2000s, which was named a 2016 finalist for the Frank Luther Mott-Kappa Tau Alpha book award, she has been recognized for her teaching and writing abilities with several awards. Finneman’s research focuses on news coverage of U.S. first ladies and women politicians, as well as the U.S. suffrage movement.
