Min Encourages Everyone to Dive into Sharana Literature

Social welfare minister and district incharge HC Mahadevappa called on people to delve into Sharana literature during the Sharana Nuliya Chandayya Jayanthi, organised at Kalamandir in the city on Tuesday. The event was jointly organised by the district administration and the Department of Kannada and Culture.

Mahadevappa said the 12th-century Sharanas fought to create a society sans discrimination and on the basis of equality, along with other followers of Basavanna.

He said Sharanas advocated intercaste marriage and opposed superstitious practice and blind beliefs and that studying their literature would promote scientific temperance and intellectual thinking among people.

Chamaraja MLA K Harishgowda called upon the youth to adhere to the principles and philosophy of the Sharanas to build a society with no discrimination.

Kundur Mutt seer Sharathchandra Swami, Mahadeshwara Betta Salur Mutt seer Vidwan Shanta Mallikarjuna Swamy, SC, ST and Nomada Tribes Development Corporation chairperson G Pallavi, Ballari Srikrishnadevaraya University vice-chancellor N Muniraju, former IAS officer ST Anjankumar and others were present.
