Bangla Academy is holding this year’s Amar Ekushey Boi Mela and it will be inaugurated on February 15th. They sent a letter to the Academic and Creative Publishers Association of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Publishers, and Book-Sellers Association addressing that the fair would be held from February 15th to February 28th.

They mentioned that the only condition kept to hold this fair is that all the concerned people involved would have to possess vaccination certificates. The officials from the academy had asked all the Writers, Publishers, Salespersons, Officials, and others involved with the fair to take their booster dose if necessary.
Ittadi Grantho Prokash Publisher Johirul Abedin and Nalonda Prakashani Publisher Redwanur Rahman confirmed that they have received the letter.
“We expected that the fair would take place from the start of February. But now, we will get some additional time for preparations. We believe that between this gap, the infection rate will decline”, stated Farid Ahmed, President of Academic and Creative Publishers Association and Publisher of Somoy Prakashon.

Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Nurul Hada reiterated that the letter to all those concerned people had already been sent. However, he also mentioned that he would not like to announce that the book fair will begin. He is concerned about the covid protocols and has contacted the DGHS to establish a Covid-19 vaccination booth. The DGHS has agreed to support them with all the necessary resources.

Fair authorities have started preparing at Suhrawardy Udyan. The fair was supposed to set to begin from the 1st of February but due to the ongoing spike in Covid cases, they had to postpone it for another two weeks.

Ekushey Book Fair traditionally begins from February 1st every year but it was changed last year. It was held on from March 18th last year due to the pandemic and ended quite early- on April 12th, instead of April 14th. This year due to the pandemic, they yet again had to postpone the dates but are looking forward to beginning it from February 15th.
