Education Minister Conducts Review Meeting Over Delayed Textbooks Issue

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently chaired a comprehensive review to assess the progress of textbook development, accompanied by key officials from the Ministry. The meeting was attended by the Secretary, School Education and Literacy, NCERT Director and Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The meeting comes in response to concerns raised regarding the delayed availability of Science, Maths, and Social Sciences textbooks for Class 6 students.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Education, preparations are underway to introduce new and engaging textbooks for Classes 3 and 6 for the academic year 2024-25. Currently, nine textbooks for these grades are finalized, with the remaining eight expected to be released soon.
In addition to discussing textbook availability, Mr. Pradhan also reviewed the ongoing efforts to enhance the capacity of teachers who will be using these new textbooks. While the NSTC is responsible for developing textbooks up to Class 12, the focus for the upcoming academic year remains on Classes 3 and 6.
The Ministry's proactive steps aim to address the immediate challenges faced by students and educators as schools commence the new academic year amidst the textbook shortage issue.
