Celebrating 50 Years Of New Delhi World Book Fair! (1972-2022)on Dec 01, 2021
The New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) is back in its in-person format and will be opening its doors for its 30th edition scheduled to be held from January 8-16, 2022 in the newly constructed Halls at Pragati Maidan – in the heart of New Delhi. A major calendar event in the publishing world and eagerly awaited by book lovers, NDWBF is also celebrating its 50th year in 2022. The milestone will be marked with a special photo exhibition around the 50 years of the journey.
The legacy…
The fair is organized annually by National Book Trust, India (under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India). It attracts participation from all major publishing houses across the globe and opens up a gateway to the publishing and intellectual world of South Asia. In 2021, the fair was organized virtually and the virtual exhibition platform got more than 2.8 million hits – with visitors from 70 countries across the world, and major Indian and foreign publishers as exhibitors.
The theme…
The theme for NDWBF 2022 is Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate the 75 years of India’s Independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. This Mahotsav is dedicated to the people of India and is an embodiment of all that is progressive about India’s socio-cultural, political and economic identity. Patrons of NDWBF will be able to partake in a host of literary and cultural activities around the theme during the fair days.
Guest of Honour Country…
With France as the Guest of Honour Country at NDWBF 2022, the fair will see a beautifully-designed French Pavilion in the newly-designed state-of-the-art Hall. There will be exclusive literary programmes, workshops, book releases, seminars, etc. by France at the Pavilion as well as in the International Events Corner. Visitors to the fair will be able to meet many French publishers and authors, and will be able to browse through a number of French books and translated works as well.
Children’s pavilion…
Debuting this year is a unique corner for Child Authors, who will be provided a platform to discuss their books, their inspiration to write, etc. Activities promoting children’s literature and reading habit such as storytelling sessions, workshops, panel discussions, street plays, quiz competitions, etc. will be organized in the attractively-designed Children’s Pavilion.
B2B marketplace…
Apart from being a hub of literary and cultural activities, NDWBF is also an epicenter of business opportunities for distributors, rights agents, booksellers and publishers. Many B2B events and conferences are organized on the sidelines at the fair for the benefit of both the exhibitors and general readers, and to share and exchange ideas about Indian and international book trade.
Authors’ Corners…
The crowd favourite Authors’ Corners will be back this year as well with dialogues, panel discussions, book launches for the publishers, authors and booklovers.
“The New Delhi World Book Fair has time and again proven to be the perfect platform for synthesis of all activities relating to the publishing industry. Carrying that legacy forward, the 30th edition of NDWBF will be bigger than ever and will offer unique opportunities for visitors to satiate their literary needs. With France as the Guest of Honour Country, the book lovers will be able to browse through French literature and interact with authors, literary persons and publishers of France, and connect culturally as well with the country of France. With Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava as the Theme of the Fair, there will be a number of related events and programmes for all.”
– Shri Yuvraj Malik, Director National Book Trust, India
“It’s a very proud moment for us to have France as a guest of Honour at the 30th edition of the New Delhi World Book Fair in 2022. This will be an opportunity for our two countries to bring our minds closer and reconnect people through literature in this new era ushered in by the pandemic. We are all set to celebrate our 75-year relationship with India with a delegation of more than 20 authors and 10 publishers, who will come to the NDWBF in January 2022 to establish and nurture long-term Indo-French partnerships in the publishing world.”
– H.E. Mr Emmanuel Lenain, Ambassador of France to India
