Frontlist | Avni Doshi's second novel 'Protection' to release in 2023on Jan 20, 2021 Indian-origin author Avni Doshi made a scintillating debut in the literary world with her first novel 'Burnt Sugar' which was shortlisted for the 2020 Booker Prize. And now, news is that her second novel titled 'Protection' will be published in 2023. A report by The Bookseller reads, 'Editor Hermione Thompson acquired English-language UK, Commonwealth and European rights, excluding the Indian subcontinent, from Maria Cardona at Pontas Literary & Film Agency.' While Doshi's 'Burnt Sugar' was about a troubled relationship between a mother and daughter, 'Protection' will focus on the father-daughter relationship. The book blurb of the upcoming book reads, according to The Bookseller, “Set in India and America, Protection is narrated by the youngest of three children in a close-knit but unhappy family. Across the span of several generations, it traces the effects of patriarchy, tradition and trauma, forces which mark each family member deeply and differently. Offering a devastating accounting of the economies of love, money and control that circulate through a household, Protection is a blazing examination of power and its abuses.” Meanwhile, Thompson shared the news on Twitter on January 15 and wrote, Happiest news for fans of brutal & beautiful contemporary fiction and especially for those of us fortunate enough to work with the extraordinary talent that is @avnidoshi!
