If you want to contribute some of your used books, the Readiatrics Book Drive is once again looking to help children in the community. The book campaign attempts to promote literacy at home without the extra stress of returning books to the library or school. Once the youngster receives a book, it becomes theirs to keep.
This provides parents and children with age-appropriate books at home, allowing them to experience the wonder of reading. Darla Drew Lerdal, the organiser of Readiatrics, noted, "And that's where literacy really happens is in the home, so they can read it with a mom or grandmother." I've seen kids reading it to a little brother or sister.
And that's where the magic happens for this drive: when they have a book at home."
The campaign gathers and distributes approximately 5,000 books per year.
Books can be left off until May 8 at the Rapid City Public Library, Dahl Arts Centre, Books A Million, Black Hills Federal Credit Union branches, and all Rapid City Medical Centres.
