On Thursday, Minister of Culture Mustafa Rawashdeh officially opened the 2024 Amman International Book Fair on behalf of King Abdullah II, accompanied by Algeria's Minister of Culture and Arts, Soraya Mouloudji. Before the ceremony, the ministers explored various exhibition pavilions, including those representing the Ministry of Culture, the Greater Amman Municipality, the Jordanian Armed Forces, and the National Library Department, as well as international pavilions from countries such as China, Palestine, Kuwait, Oman, Sharjah, and Iraq's Women Artists' Site.

This year's fair features over 400 local, regional, and international publishing houses from 20 different countries, with Algeria serving as the "guest of honor." In his opening remarks, Rawashdeh highlighted that this event coincides with the Kingdom's Silver Jubilee celebrations, expressing appreciation for Algeria's participation, which holds historical significance for Jordanians dating back to the 1960s anti-colonial struggles. He emphasized the deep emotional connection between Jordan and Algeria, underscored by their collaborative cultural efforts.

Jabr Abu Faris, head of the Publishers Union and exhibition director, emphasized the union's commitment to timely organization, mentioning the ongoing slogan "Jerusalem, the Capital of Palestine," which underscores the Hashemite guardianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and aims to reinforce historical ties between Jordan, Palestine, and the sacred city amidst ongoing tensions.
