35th Edition of the Bogotá International Book Fair Commences

One of the cultural high points of the year, the Bogotá International Book Fair (FILBo) returns to the capital's Corferias exposition grounds this month with an extensive schedule of literary activities in addition to the fair's customary pavilions.

Twenty-five additional countries are taking part, including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Spain, United States, France, Italy, Israel, Mexico, Mozambique, Nigeria, Portugal, United Kingdom, and Vietnam, with Mexico serving as the guest of honor.

The Colombian Nobel Prize winner Gabriel Garcia Márquez, who passed away in 2014, will also be honored in Edition 35 of FILBo. The most widely translated Latin American novelist, Garcia Márquez, is Cervantes's rival in the Spanish language.

The "Roots and Encounters: A Future of Peace for Our America" theme inspired the Mexico Pavilion's design.

The guest nation's roster of authors spans a wide range of literary genres. It includes, among others, children's book author Vivian Mansour, poet Alejandro Magallanes, literary journalist Juan Villoro, and political activist and crime novelist Paco Ignacio Taibo II.

The national line-up for FILBo, which begins on April 18 and runs through May 2, includes artists like Ana Luca Caicedo, Santiago Gamboa, Oscar Pantoja, Pilar Quintana, Vito Apüshana, Juan Gabriel Vasquez, and Velia Vidal.

Richard Firth-Godbehere (UK), a Ph.D. and Fellow at the Centre for the History of the Emotions at the Queen Mary University of London, David Wallace-Wells (US), a best-selling science essayist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Nigeria), and Kim Thy, a Canadian author of Vietnamese descent whose debut novel Ru won the Governor General's Award for French-language fiction in 2010.

The Colombian Chamber of Books organizes FILBo, and entry is 11,000 Colombian Pesos for those who are 13 years of age or older. Those under six are admitted free of charge, while those aged 6 to 12 must pay COP$8,500 in entry fees.
