The signing of Memorandums of Understanding at the valedictory function of the Chennai International Book Fair on Wednesday resulted in the translation of 365 books.

M.K. Stalin presided over the signing of 18 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between foreign publishers and their Tamil counterparts. Upon their release, the Chief Minister handed over the Tamil translations of five medical books to medical students.

Ninety books would be translated from Tamil into international languages, 60 into other Indian languages, 170 into Tamil from international and Indian languages, and 45 into international languages from Indian languages other than Tamil.

"This is the 46th Chennai Book Fair, and for the first time in 46 years, we are hosting an international book fair in Chennai," Mr. Stalin said.

He announced that the translation of Periyar's work into 21 Indian and international languages had begun.

Hasri Hasan, a Malaysian publisher, expressed gratitude for the exposure and the opportunity to interact with fellow publishers and learn more about Tamil literature and writers at the book fair. "This MoU is one of the first steps we're taking to bring Tamil authors and their work to a global audience," said Gnanaprakasam of Aazhi Publishing House, which signed an agreement with Turkey.

Many Indian and foreign publishers praised the state government's efforts and stated that this fair was one of the best international fairs they had attended in recent years. During the ceremony and after many stalls had begun closing for the day, the public was barred from visiting the international fair's stalls.
